Conquering Mind Clutter

 Conquering Mind Clutter

We often think of organization in the context of things and possessions, but often it is our mind that prevents us from achieving our potential.

Tips for Conquering Mind Clutter

1.     Do a mind dump of all the things you feel you “have to do”

2.     Next ask how important each is on scale of 1 -10

3.     Give yourself permission to eliminate (scratch off your list) or delegate ½ of them

What remains, the “must-do’s” are what is written on your calendar.&

Life Layers

Would getting organized be life changing? I spoke at the May Women in Business luncheon for the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce last spring, and many women vocalized a concern for the lack of time for their personal interests, or trouble finding the balance between work and home.  If this sounds like you, make a list of “life layers” or major events that need to be factored as a priority.

Finish Your "To-Do" List

 Finish your To-Do list

Is your list of projects growing? Are you overwhelmed because of it? Many are burdened with strains of taking work outside of the office and going to bed with a running to-do list.

Business: Joys and Perils of a Country Office

My office is a charming little cottage my son built for me as a dedicated office.  Weather permitting, the door is kept open most of the year for guests – both invited and uninvited.  That means that my garden cat, my unpaid office assistant, roam in and out for a snack.  The occasional hummingbird flits briefly inside while feeding at the flowers surrounding the door.  Horses gallop and roll in the pasture behind.  Usually this enviroment keeps me fairly relaxed.

But, not always.  Monday I had another fight with my printer.  I won,

The Key to Arriving on Time

I am always running late, although I leave on time.

Standing in your kitchen and saying it is time to leave is not planning for “The Gap.”  The time you actually leave is when you pull out of the driveway and go on your way.  “The Gap” includes the time it takes you to go out the door, get into the car, and pull out of the driveway.  “The Gap” may also include going back to the house for something you forgot, like feeding the cat.  If you allow 10 minutes for “The Gap”, you’re probably safe.  If you have children, 15 minutes is more realistic.

Recovery Time

After a great week at the beach enjoying surf, sand and shrimp with family, I came home to computer problems. Talk about coming back to the real world with a reality jolt. Immediately having a speech to give and a class to teach just added to the pressure. A few other issues needed to be resolved such as office phone problems.  I realized, instead of plowing ahead, I needed to pull back and allow myself some recovery time.

Here is what helped. I stopped and got my house in order – everything from the trip put away. Then I did the same with my office.

Does Your Brain Have an Oil Leak from Mind Clutter?

Recently I heard Lorin Beller Blake, of Big Fish Nation http://www.bigfishnation.com say that unfinished bold actions are like the oil leak in the Gulf:  energy sucking and energy wasting.  On the other hand, completing a big, bold action is a huge energy boost.  What makes us mentally imitate that notorious oil leak?

A bold action is something we need to do or should do, but because of procrastination or fear we hesitate to take the next step.  To learn more about bold action

Wearing My Clients' Shoes...

I saw myself in my clients’ shoes Sunday evening. I was working in my yard. You may have noticed I have been doing that a lot, trying to tame the jungle. Anyway, I had a project planned to clear an area for a lettuce bed (although it may almost be too late to plant lettuce), but instead I was weeding. I started listening to myself and the conversation was going like this – “This isn’t what you planned to do. Go back to the lettuce project. But these weeds are so easy to pull up…This isn’t what you planned…..

GUEST BLOG: Party at Mary’s House

Last week my husband and I enjoyed a delightful get-together at Mary’s home with several of her children and their families.

“How nice”, you’re thinking.   “And???”

Mary and I have been having a lively “discussion” for the past few years about how much fun (my viewpoint) or how much stress (her viewpoint) having an open house for her clients would be.

Mary lives in a century-old farm house.  Her gingerbread office is just a walk- thru- the- garden away.  Horses play in the pasture behind, cats sun themselves on the porch

Does Your Time Management Go Out the Window When You are Stressed?

The other day, I had a really good day working with a client rescuing a room in her home. It did involve over 3 hours of drive time, so all in all, it was a long day. To top it off I had a one hour Mastermind Call and a one hour teleseminar, plus email to do. I could have skipped the Mastermind Call or the class, but was determined to plow though.
