18 Things to Get Rid of from Family Circle

I was quoted several times in this so thought you would enjoy reading the article.

Are You Visually Blind?

The other day I had something happen that reminded me how we can be "visually blind' to our surroundings. My daughter asked me where the mini blender was, so I looked where I thought it was and didn’t see it, and then looked in several other cabinets I don’t use a lot. When I found it, it was in a cabinet I am in all the time and it was sitting right out front.

This same situation can happen with clutter. We get so used to seeing it we don’t see it.
I remember years ago when my children were growing up, one day I looked at a flower arrangement on a table – really looked at it.

Make “Snowflake Changes”

Well, does one teeny, tiny organizing project make a difference? Does one snowflake make a difference? No, but a bunch of snowflakes can change our lives. As our whole world/plans in East TN have been changed by an accumulation of snowflakes, you can change your world by making teeny tiny changes in your environment. This is true for your home and office.

Maybe it is just clearing off your night table. Not all the drawers, etc; just the top or even part of the top or maybe just do one drawer in your kitchen.

Tackling Projects - De-cluttering the Moths and Spiders

When I wrote about my printer problems, I hinted that I went ahead and used the vacuum cleaner for the rest on my office. Well, in all honesty, I started but soon realized this was a big project. Because I leave my door open almost all summer, cleaning my office is more like cleaning a patio. I have to evict spiders and their extensive webs and get rid of the moth graveyards.  You get the picture. Well, today I tackled the project. Once I started, I wanted to run out and quit.

My office is one big room, 14x14, with a small loft area upstairs.

Business: Joys and Perils of a Country Office

My office is a charming little cottage my son built for me as a dedicated office.  Weather permitting, the door is kept open most of the year for guests – both invited and uninvited.  That means that my garden cat, my unpaid office assistant, roam in and out for a snack.  The occasional hummingbird flits briefly inside while feeding at the flowers surrounding the door.  Horses gallop and roll in the pasture behind.  Usually this enviroment keeps me fairly relaxed.

But, not always.  Monday I had another fight with my printer.  I won,

Does Your Brain Have an Oil Leak from Mind Clutter?

Recently I heard Lorin Beller Blake, of Big Fish Nation http://www.bigfishnation.com say that unfinished bold actions are like the oil leak in the Gulf:  energy sucking and energy wasting.  On the other hand, completing a big, bold action is a huge energy boost.  What makes us mentally imitate that notorious oil leak?

A bold action is something we need to do or should do, but because of procrastination or fear we hesitate to take the next step.  To learn more about bold action

Getting Unstuck on Projects

Many of you have read about or visited my  cute little country office.  (See photos on my website http://www.clutterfree.biz/about.htm). Last week, though, I was really stuck on a project – organizing the information for my new website, Exceptional Productivity Now!  I took the file box with all the information I had gathered and moved it from my office to the dining room table in my house.  It isn’t finished, and papers are covering the table, but at least I’m working on it.  Try changing locations from where you usually work to see if it will help you, too.

Reclaiming Your Office

I bet you are wondering if a Professional Organizer ever needs to reclaim her own office. Yes.  Uh-huh.  Here’s how it went.  Even Pros need to work at being Clutter-free & Organized.

I had been working pretty nonstop with clients – in their homes and offices. Plus, I had been traveling with my business. Also, after every speech there is a certain amount to undo and put away.  Unfortunately, I came home and didn’t follow my own advice to allow for an office reentry day.
